Scholarships for Professional Studies Students

We encourage you to apply for scholarships at the same time you apply for admission.

UNDERGRADUATE TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIP

Timely applicants for admission to the University's undergraduate degree programs in the Professional Studies program are eligible for consideration for admission as a Transfer Scholar. Scholars will receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,250 a semester for up to four semesters of undergraduate study at USF. The scholarship is applicable to the fall and spring semesters only. No financial aid application is required and Scholars will be identified at the time of admission.

To be considered for admission as a Transfer Scholar, applicants must submit their Admission Application and all required supporting documents to the University's Admission office by August 1 for a program beginning in the fall semester and by January 1 for a program beginning in the spring semester.

To be admitted as a Scholar:

Applicants must be newly admitted students who have a transfer grade point average of at least 3.75 and must have at least 60 graded credits accepted for transfer credit.

To remain eligible for the scholarship, recipients must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.2 for each semester's work at USF.

ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP FOR UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE PROFESSIONAL STUDIES STUDENTS

Alumni Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to a limited number of newly admitted undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate exceptional promise of achieving academic excellence. The Alumni Scholarship Committee evaluates the applicants based on:

  • Financial Need
  • Academic Potential
  • Potential for future contributions to the field of study

Successful applicants receive a tuition grant up to 6 credits of coursework: 3 credits disbursed the first term and 3 credits in the second term contingent upon maintenance of good academic standing (3.00 GPA).

Applicants must also complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online, www.fafsa.ed.gov, or from the USF Financial Aid Office, or Regional Campus office.

LT. BARBARA HAMMERMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROFESSIONAL STUDIES PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION STUDENTS

Scholarships are available for newly admitted students in the Professional Studies Bachelor of Public Administration with a concentrations in Law Enforcement Leadership program. To receive a scholarship, applicants must be fully admitted to the BPA/LEL degree program. Lt. Barbara Hammerman Memorial Scholarship recipients are expected to exemplify positive leadership in their profession and within the USF Learning Community; be in good standing as a sworn peace officer in a California law enforcement agency and possess a POST Basic Certificate: and must have a minimum of 50 transferable units with a minimum grade point average of 2.3.

MEGAN NOBLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP UNIVERSITY OF SAN FRANCISCO FOR CONTINUING STUDENTS

Megan’s family, friends and her university have established an endowed scholarship in her name and her memory. Choosing to remember her this way allows us all to celebrate and continue her love of learning, writing, and striving for personal growth. It is an especially fitting remembrance because it continues in perpetuity thus sustaining others’ hopes and aspirations, as she would want.
Because Megan was a returning adult student working towards the completion of her Bachelor degree, this memorial scholarship will be awarded to a student at the University of San Francisco who is working towards the same goal.
Each year a scholarship in the amount of at least $2,500 will be awarded to a student who meets the following criteria:

Application Requirement:

  • An adult of at least 30 years of age
  • Professional Studies undergraduate student graduating in December 2009 or May of 2010
  • Attach your degree evaluation or a copy of your graduation checklist
  • Submission of a 500-word minimum essay entitled, “What it means to be an educated person?”  Essay will be judged on content, grammar, and thoughtful and organized construction.
  • A minimum total GPA of 3.0 for USF course work
  • Letter from employer verifying full-time employment
  • Resume

Application deadline for submission of all materials for an award is May 2, 2009.   Notice of the award will be made by July 4, 2009.

Contributions to the scholarship fund are most welcome as it is the intention of Megan's family to continue to grow this scholarship.  You may send a check to the University of San Francisco, in the fund's name, to the following office with our great thanks.  All contributions are tax deductible.

OSHER REENTRY SCHOLARSHIP FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROFESSIONAL STUDIES STUDENTS

Osher Reentry Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to a limited number of newly admitted undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional promise of achieving academic excellence. The Student Affairs and Alumni Scholarship Committee evaluates the applicants based on the following:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Awards are given to students whose collegiate studies have been interrupted by circumstances beyond their control for approximately five years and are resuming their studies to complete their first baccalaureate degree.

  • A 3.00 (B) transfer grade point average or demonstration of academic potential.

  • Financial need

  • Demonstrate potential for future contributions to the field of study; scholarship recipients should look forward to a significant number of years of workforce participation after graduation

The Osher Reentry Scholarship assists with the cost of tuition only; grants and scholarships cannot be offered to applicants whose tuition is completely paid for by other sources of assistance. Successful applicants receive a tuition grant up to $4,000.00: $2,000.00 disbursed the first term and $2,000.00 in the second term contingent upon maintenance of good academic standing (minimum cumulative 3.00 GPA).

GRADUATE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP FOR PROFESSIONAL STUDIES STUDENTS

Professional Studies Graduate Merit Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to a limited number of newly admitted graduate students who demonstrate exceptional promise of achieving academic excellence. The graduate faculty evaluate the applicants based on academic potential in their chosen graduate degree field, as evidenced by academic and related performance to date. Successful applicants receive a tuition grant up to 6 credits of coursework: 3 credits disbursed the first term, and 3 credits disbursed in the second term contingent upon maintenance of satisfactory academic progress (a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.)

GRADUATE COMMUNITY SERVICE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP

In keeping with the University’s mission to educate for a more just social order, CPS Community Service Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to a limited number of newly admitted graduate students who have demonstrated meritorious achievements in community service activities in either paid or volunteer positions. Successful applicants receive a tuition grant up to 6 credits of coursework: 3 credits disbursed the first term, 3 credits in the second term, contingent upon maintenance of satisfactory academic progress (a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA).
